Great Elk are a picturesque band. Their sound is vast and layered, despite being rooted in folk. Disciples from the school of Wilco, the band have a keen ear for production, and their attentiveness to sound makes their music a comfortable fit for potential placement in films, shows, and ads. In addition, frontman Paul Basile’s lyrics reflect his nomadic lifestyle and lend itself to the band’s big sound, which reflect the drama of travel, and frequent relocation.
He has seen both sides of the coin – city life, being a Brooklyn resident, where the band formed – and the country life, living now on a Christmas Tree farm in Oregon.
