Singer/songwriter Matt Butler has spent most of his youth fronting the band Reckless Sons, a heart-on-sleeve indie rock band that spent nearly a decade as New York City ambassadors of old school American rock. Having been in the Jingle Player since the early days, part of one of their songs would become the basis of the first theme for the show American Pickers.
Having dissolved the band last year, Butler’s recent work as a solo artist has been among his most personal to date, retaining his heartland style, but with a new resolve and freshness. This year he’s already released the wide-eyed singles “Halfway by the River” and “White Jeans,” and he’s currently readying a new one entitled “Mission,” which will be released at the Matt Butler Band’s upcoming performance at the Bowery Electric May 2, presented by Jingle Punks (the show will also feature fellow JP band Hunters & Runners).
